Thanks to inventory and other examinations archaeologists know that during the period that Lapphyttan was in use, there was a large number of similar blast furnace plants also at work in the Norberg region. In the mining area of Norberg, corresponding to the municipalities of Norberg and Fagersta today, there were one hundred blast furnace sites contemporary to Lapphyttan. Some of these sites were in the villages and others as in the case of Lapphyttan, were situated on grounds out in the forrest not taken in use for other activities. In the village of Olsbenning, the village nearest to Lapphyttan, another site was in operation at the same time as Lapphyttan was. It´s worth considering that the mining area of Norberg is just one of about twenty medieval mining areas, in the central region of Sweden called Bergslagen.
